Born on the 20th March 1890 in Volkermarkt Karnten, Austria - Alexander Spendal was a prolific painter his whole life.

At the age of 15 he travelled to Vienna to study art.

During WWI he became a cartographer in the Austrian Military Geographic Institute. His original charts are still housed and often displayed in the Vienna Military Museum. Alexander is pictured, left, in his WWI military uniform.

His studies were sponsored over a period by Baroness Lippe-Weisenfeld. Through her, Alexander became a student of Professor Bernd Zdichinec.

Alexander Spendal held his first exhibition in 1926 which was well received by art critics and the media.

Heinrich (Spendal) Greve - grand nephew of Alexander Spendal.

Heinz now resides in Perth, Western Australia.
